Kathy Kanada in the RBJ: Building a Stronger Workforce Through Inclusive Hiring

In a recent Rochester Business Journal Viewpoint, Kathy Kanada, Director of Employment Services at The Arc Ontario, argues that employers facing workforce shortages should see hiring people with intellectual and developmental disabilities as a smart workforce strategy, not only a social responsibility initiative. She shares stories of employees who have stayed with the same business for more than 20 years. She also describes a young woman whose work experience at the Canandaigua YMCA turned into a job offer. And she walks through how our employment coaches, work-readiness training and ongoing support help set both employees and employers up for success. The Arc Ontario now supports people working at more than 120 businesses across Ontario County and the surrounding area.
