To mark National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Kathy Kanada, Director of Employment Services at The Arc Ontario, wrote a guest opinion for the Rochester Beacon asking local employers to take a fresh look at people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She notes that fewer than one in five adults with IDD have a community job, even though nearly half of those without one want to work. She also points to research showing that companies leading on disability inclusion outperform their peers financially. Kathy then explains how our VR job training, employment coaches and paid work experiences help both new employees and employers succeed.
